Everyone has a disgusting junk drawer in their home filled with used batteries and ketchup packets. 2018 may be the year when that premiss become a bajillionaire corporate machine. With a redesign that looks as good as Dropbox's—I am all for it.
Dropbox has gone and set fire to their own house. I mean it rebranded its entire visual makeup for the first time in its 10 years of being. Yeah you heard that right, Dropbox has not only been around for a decade but its got a new pretty face. With this rebrand, they certainly know where their bread and butter is, and they did not disappoint. While rumors of an IPO swirl about the nearly tween aged company, this indispensable internet tool, looks to have chosen sides in the battle of the right brain vs. left brain, us.
Not only are they a place to house all your dusty files, but they seem to have taken on the mission of becoming a kind of meeting ground for where work happens. Think of them as a table where all kinds of people can put their pieces of a puzzle together. That is their aim at least—I am a bit fuzzy on the how—but it's certainly a great idea.
It looks like Dropbox's goal is to be defined by their users. All different types of people working together in one place; represented by its strange color combinations. The standards for its logo are now kaleidoscopic. Dropbox has also taken steps to encourage a good sense of collaboration by having artists of different styles come together to create a new ad campaign. They have also decided to emphasize their love of the idea itself by using illustrations of simplistic line drawings. These illustrations are meant to be the moment a person has an idea and jots it down cocktail-napkin-style. Perhaps the best part of their redesign is their choice in a house font. Sharp Grotesk has a massive family that helps Dropbox show off how versatile it can be. It gives the company a voice of incalculable possibilities. Which means that Dropbox has the ability to be just about anything you need it to be.
Dropbox has gone and done it. This new look has appeal and purpose richly combined that could lead them to a whole bunch of money in the coming year.
